2014 Statti Lamezia Greco Calabria, Italy
On Sale $18.99
Greco 100%. Soft pressing of the grapes, with fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Emotional, powerful but safer, like racing on an Alfa Romeo Duetto. Delicious for aperitif and early courses.
2013 Comtes Lafon Viré Clessé Burgundy, France
On Sale $35.99
The 2013 Viré-Clessé has an utterly charming nose that seems more finished than the others, with fine tension and focus. The palate is very well-balanced with fine acidity. This comes over as being very precise and poised. Though I would be seeking just a little more personality, I suspect that this will ultimately turn out better than the 2012.

2013 Jean-Marc Burgaud Cote de Py Beaujolais, France
On Sale $18.99
It has a vibrant and energetic nose, the fruit redder than Grands Cras, with cranberry and pomegranate scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy tones on the entry, but grainier toward the structured back palate. There is a tangible sense of energy, with a zesty finish that lingers in the mouth. This is a classy Morgon Côte du Py that will reward those who cellar it for 3 to 4 years.

2013 Anthill Farms Pinot Noir Anderson Valley, CA
On Sale $31.99
An overlooked appellation for outstanding Pinot Noirs, Anderson Valley is home to wonderful single vineyard sites that inform this bottling. Bright red fruit mixed with underlying notes of earth and fresh turned soil with a refreshingly dry finish.
NV Paolo Scavino Vini Rosso Piedmont, Italy
On Sale $12.99
Scavino’s 2013 Rosso is bright, floral and radiant with supple red-toned fruit and lovely overall balance. Sweet floral and spice notes add nuance on the inviting finish.
2013 Carlisle Zinfandel Papera Vineyard Russian River Valley, CA
On Sale $44.99
As always, the 2013 Zinfandel Papera Ranch is one of the silkiest, most polished wines in the range. Crushed flowers, sweet red cherries, tobacco and mint build in an effortless, gracious wine long on class and personality. The Papera includes a small amount (4%) of Carignane, which, hard as it seems to believe, really makes a difference in the wine’s character and feel. Papera, one of Sonoma’s heritage sites, was planted in 1934.
