In 1918 Masataka Taketsuru made the journey to Scotland to unveil the secrets of whisky making and bring them home to his native Japan. After studying distillation at the University Of Glasgow, Taketsuru returned to his homeland where he was hired by Suntory Holdings to help launch the Yamazaki Distillery, Japan's first whisky distillery. After completing his contract with Suntory, Masataka opted to become independent and make his own ideal whisky. In 1934 he went north and built his first distillery in Yoichi, and Nikka Whisky was born. Join us in celebrating this phenomenal selection!
