After 37 months en tirage, Dautel's 2016 Pinot Brut nature opens with a clear, very delicate and finely aromatic bouquet with very fine Pinot and brioche notes and again (like the Riesling brut) the purity, finesse and elegance of Champagne. On the palate, this is an iodine-tinged and bone-dry yet highly finessed sparkling wine, the finest I have ever tasted from this region so far. The wine is pure, refined and transparent on the delicate and weightless yet intense and seriously structured palate. I am pretty speechless about this quality that Chris Dautel already wanted to serve me last year but got my skeptical "no, thanks." German Sekt can be terribly ordinary, yet this is one of the finest sparkling wines you can find in Germany! Tasted from lot L004-20 in June 2020.
